SAN FRANCISCO –– On Tuesday, the inaugural Dons Spirit Walk was held, with hundreds of faculty, staff and students walking together in a 1-mile loop around lower campus. The event kicked off at noon at Welch Field where fans of the Green and Gold joined the Los Locos, Spirit Squad and Don Francisco for pre-walk festivities.Â
"It was a great turnout for the first annual Dons Spirit Walk," said USF Director of Athletics
Scott Sidwell. "There is nothing I enjoy more than spreading the good word of the Dons with my colleagues and the students of USF. I say this to all – Go Dons! – and I hope to have everyone out at a game this year."
Â
Attendees were armed with green and gold pom poms, and led on the walk by USF President Paul J. Fitzgerald, S.J. Participants walked from Welch Field around St. Ignatius Church and on to Parker Avenue. From there, the group which included a strong contingent of USF student-athletes, looped back in front of Gleeson Library and past the Armillary Sphere. The group then headed down Cardiac Hill to Benedetti Diamond, looped around the front of War Memorial Gym, walked past the University Center, and finally finished back at Welch Field.Â
The walk was sponsored in collaboration with GoUSF, Athletics, University Ministry, CAPS, HPS, Koret, and Office of Business and Finance to rally and celebrate USF's commitment to wellness.
