Dons Tied for 19th in Week 1 Poll

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco women's cross country team stands tied at No. 19 in the nation in the cross country season's first poll, as produced weekly by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Dons moved up a spot from the preseason poll and currently sit tied with Mississippi State, with 132 points. The ranking ties for the program's highest Week 1 mark, matching the opening poll of the 2012 season. USF's highest ranking ever is 10th, achieved in the fifth week of the 2013 season. That year capped a string of five consecutive West Coast Conference team championship titles, and the Dons closed the season with an 18th place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Regionally, the women are standing pat at fifth in the West, trailing Oregon, Boise State, Stanford and Washington. The men are rated ninth in the stacked region led by national No. 2 Oregon. The Dons are one of four WCC schools where both the men's and women's squads are enjoying regional rankings, alongside BYU (Mountain Region: M – 4th, W – 3rd), Portland (West: M – 5th; W – 6th) and Gonzaga (West: M – 13th, W – 11th).
After a successful showing at the 24th USF Cross Country Invitational to open the year, the Dons are in the midst of a training block before heading out to their first points-earning meet on the docket. USF returns to the course on Sept. 24, competing in one of the largest meets in the country, Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational.
