STANFORD, Calif. — The University of San Francisco's women's tennis team showed off its talent at the ITA Regional Championships this past weekend at the Taube Tennis Center. The Dons advanced their doubles duo
Hanna Borjeson and
Rita Colyer to the round of 16s and
Emily Maxfield and
Mya Bui defeated Pac-12 members in singles play to highlight the action for San Francisco.
Borjeson and Colyer and Bui and Maxfield opened the weekend in doubles with victories. The dominating duos Borjeson and Colyer defeated Eastern Washington 8-5 as Maxfield and Bui took down Portland 8-5. In the round of 32s, Borjeson and Colyer teamed up and beat UC Davis 8-6 as Maxfield and Bui took the match to extra points but fell to the No. 1 seed California 8-7(5). Borjeson and Colyer advanced to 16s facing Stanford but fell short in extra points, 8-7(4).
In singles, Maxfield and Bui took down both Pac-12 members in more than one match as Maxfield defeated Stanford's Naomie Rosenberg in straight sets 7-5;6-1. Bui took down Washington's Kenadi Hance in three tough but successful sets, 7-5;6-7(4);6-0. Colyer got the automatic win from Seattle's illness withdraw. In the round of 64s, Bui cruised past WCC foe Gonzaga in straight sets, 7-5;6-2. Maxfield found success in extra sets against Washington's Nike Zupancic, 6-7(4);6-2;6-0. Colyer fell in three sets to Portland's Lourdes Ramalle 6-4;3-6;7-5. In 32s, Maxfield fell short to the No. 6 seed California's Julia Rosenqvist as Bui defeated Eastern Washington's Zoey Nelson, 6-3;6-2. Bui was the only Don to advance to the round of 16s facing the No. 4 seed Stanford's Emily Arbuthnott, but fell short 6-0;6-2.
Amber Del Rosario also defeated Pac-12 member, Stanford's Elizabeth Yao in a competitive singles consolation, 1-6;6-1;1-0(3).
