WTN | Dons Lose a Close One to San Jose State

SAN FRANCISCO -- The University of San Francisco women's tennis team faced San Jose State on Friday afternoon at at the Olympic Club. The Dons fell 4-0 to the Spartans.
"We had another good battle against a tough San Jose State team," said head coach Peter Bartlett. "I feel like we are getting better each match which I think is important for the team."
SJSU started with doubles wins over Alexa Meyer and Margarita Treyes (6-0). Doubles pair Anna Sokiran and Shanna Dos Santos put up three set points for their match, but ultimately fell to the Spartans 6-3. Since the doubles point was clinched by SJSU, Emily Maxfield and Mya Bui's match went unfinished at 5-5.
The Spartans took two single wins to close out the match over Bui (6-1, 2-2, retired), Treyes (6-3, 6-0) and Dos Santos (6-3, 6-4). Sokiran lost her first match set 6-1 and went 4-4 in her second set when the match stopped. Maxfield's singles match ended after she dropped her first set 6-4. Meyer didn't have a score in her match and it went unfinished as well.

The Dons are back on the Olympic Club court on Saturday, Feb. 24 against Cal State Fullerton. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
