SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Following a strong showing at West Coast Conference Championships, three members of the University of San Francisco men's golf team earned all-conference accolades, led by
Toby Briggs who earned Freshman of the Year and Honorable Mention honors.
Tim Widing joined Briggs, earning first team honors, while senior
Jalen Griffin earned honorable mention accolades.
Sophomore
Tim Widing earns First Team All-West Coast Conference honors for the second time in his brilliant career. Widing has appeared in all 10 tournaments for the Dons this season. He boasts two top-10 finishes including an individual championship at the Redhawk Invitational.
In 26 rounds played this season, Widing sports a 71.69 stroke average which leads the team. Widing has 12 rounds of par or better this season, including a 5-under 67 in the second round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge.
Like Widing, Briggs has also played in every tournament for USF this year. In his second collegiate tournament he finished tied for sixth at the Nick Watney Invitational. This week, Briggs finished strong at the WCC Championships, capturing a tie for ninth place, his third top-10 finish of the year. He also finished tied for fifth at the Redhawk Invitational.
Jalen Griffin had a very strong spring for the Dons. Competing in six events, Griffin recorded an average round score of 74.16, the second-best stroke average of his career. At the WCC Championships Griffin was outstanding, cracking the top-10 and finishing tied for ninth. His ninth-place finish was his first career top-10 finish at the WCC Championships. This is the first time Griffin has earned all-conference honors.
BYU's Patrick Fishburn took home Player of the Year Honors. Pepperdine's head coach Michael Beard took home Coach of the Year.
