Dons First Round of the Spring in the Books

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's golf team battled through cold and extremely windy conditions as they kicked off the spring season at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate hosted by Wyoming at the Classic Club.
The Dons wrapped up the day with a 20-over 308 which has USF sitting in 17th in a loaded field that features three teams ranked in the top-50.
"Today was a tough day for us a group," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "Sometimes that's the game of golf. We know there are better scores out there. There is no doubt we will see a different group tomorrow."
Freshman Christoffer Palsson opened up the tournament with a 4-over 76 which has him tied for 47th. Palsson opened on the 10th hole and began the tournament with five-straight pars before a bogey and double bogey to finish the first-9 three over. Palsson wrapped up the round with birdies on one, four, and nine.
Sophomores Alex Chin and Soren Lind finished tied for 64th with 5-over 77s on the day. Both players tallied three birdies.
Tim Widing and Toby Briggs finished tied for 78th after finishing the opening round with a 6-over 78. Widing recorded birdies on the 18th hole and the fourth. Briggs led the Dons with four birdies on the day, carding birdies on 10, 15, 2 and nine.
After 18 holes, Texas Tech and Colorado State are tied for first after both teams finished with a 2-over 290. TCU's David Ravetto and Boise State's Skyler Eubank are the individual leaders after the opening round after both players finished with 4-under 68s. Only six players were under par after day one.
The tournament will resume with the second round tomorrow morning. The Dons will tee off at 8:50 a.m.
