MORAGA, Calif. — The University of San Francisco's beach volleyball team split a pair of its matches Friday afternoon at the Moraga Commons Park, dominating a 5-0 win over Feather River College and falling in a close 3-2 decision to the Utah Utes.
San Francisco swept Feather River College, with all five pairs showing off its competitive talent on the sand that highlighted this afternoon's matchup.
Carly Lowry and
Anna Dalla Vecchia at the No. 1 pair tallied the Dons' first victory over Golden Eagles' Madison Howard and Jillian Wright, 21-14, 21-13, followed by
Camille Araujo and
Victoria Rogers who took down Aurora Carnes and Mere Nagase in straight sets, 21-15, 21-17 at the No. 2 pairs.
Emily Zinger and Madelyn Lafollette and Golden Eagles' Arizona Webb and Lauren Erickson made it interesting, taking its competition to three sets, but it was Zinger and Lafollette who ran away with the 20-22, 21-9, 15-7 victory. The Dons' No. 4 pairs

Ella Reames dominated over Lauren Ornbaun and Brandee Burton, 21-16, 21-9. Moments later,
Trish Koutsoukos and
Sophie Sydenham sealed the Dons' 5-0 victory at No. 5 after a 21-18, 12-21, 16-14 battle over Delaney Gill and Dannika Day.
Although the Dons' fell to Pac-12 member Utah, the duos Dalla Vecchia and Lowry, and To'oto'o and Reames gave the Utes' a test at the No. 1 and 4 pairs. Vecchia and Lowry fought in three competitive sets, winning the first 21-17, falling in the second, 17-21, and then earned a 15-9 win in the third. To'oto'o and Reames had no problems taking down Phoebe Grace and Keana Smalls in straight sets, 21-12, 21-18 at the No. 4 pairs.
San Francisco (5-4) will take on Fresno City College in Rocklin, Calif. on Thursday, March 14 at 2 p.m.
