PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Playing in their final tournament of the fall season, the University of San Francisco men's golf team continued their impressive streak by finishing third overall as a team with a three-round total of 13-under-839 at the Saint Mary's Invitational. Notably, this tournament marked the fourth time this fall and the ninth consecutive tournament in which the Dons have finished in the top three, dating back to the Orange County Collegiate Classic last spring on Feb. 8 + 9, 2021.
TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
- Aiming to ride their momentum, USF remained in the top three on all three days of the tournament, placing second after round one followed by a tying for third on day two before finishing solely in third overall. As a whole, the Dons were only four strokes behind second place Stanford (17-under-835) and six strokes back of tournament champion Oregon (19-under-833).
- Individually, Toby Briggs led the pack for USF for the second straight tournament as he finished tied for ninth overall with a total of 2-under-211. Tying his teammate, Soren Lind also tied for ninth with the same three-round score. For Briggs, this placement marked the tenth time in his career that he has finished in the top ten while Lind logged his ninth top ten finish as a Don.
- Displaying their talent yet again, Matthew Anderson and Alex Chin finished tied for seventeenth overall with totals of 1-under-212.
- Rounding out the lineup, Christoffer Palsson also held his own by finishing in the top 40 as he tied for 34th with a three-round score of 2-over-215.
UP NEXT:
USF will use the next few months to train and sharpen their skills as the Dons are not set to compete against until the World Match Play Championships (hosted by Colorado) in Palm Springs on Feb. 11 + 12, 2022.
