MGOLF | Dons Fall to Third in Final Round

EL MACERO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco mens golf team's string of tournament wins has ended at three. The Dons finished two back co-winners UC Davis and Saint Mary's with a 14-under 850 (285-277-288).
USF continues to play tremendous golf as their worst round of the tournament was an even par 288. The Dons have now finished three-straight tournaments under par by 14 or more strokes.
"It was a tough day, not the result we wanted," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "The guys played their hearts out we just couldn't' get any puts to drop. But at the end of the day, we've got bigger goals that this tournament. We are going to keep working and get after and be ready to go for BYU."
Tim Widing's strong farewell tour continues. The Dons' captain finished tied for sixth, his fourth top-10 finish in five tournaments this year. He shot with a 6-under 210 (72-68-70) for the tournament. It is his 23rd career top-10 finish.
Widing opened the final round even on the front after nine, after scoring nine consecutive pars. He opened the back going bogey-bogey on 10 and 11 before locking in. He started his strong finish with a birdie on 12 and would card three more birdies to finish 2-under on the day. Widing's four birdies on Monday gives him 15 for the tournament, which is tied for second most.
Toby Briggs missed cracking the top-10 by a stroke to finish tied for 13th with a 3-under 213 (70-73-70). The fourth year finished the tournament strong with a 2-under 70. He opened the round birdie-birdie on holes one and two and was 2-under at the turn. After falling to even par with bogeys on 11 and 14, Briggs got hot again finishing with birdies on 15 and 17.
His two rounds under par this tournament gives him six for the season. His 10 birdies at the El Macero Classic fives him 44 for the spring.
Christoffer Palsson was the third member of the USF squad to crack the top-20. Palsson finished tied for 18th after shooting a 1-over 73. For the tournament, Palsson shot a 1-under 215 (72-70-73). It is his third tournament at par or better this spring.
Soren Lind and Matthew Anderson both finished the tournament over par on Monday. Lind with a three over 73 and Anderson with a four over 76. Lind finished tied for 21st with an even par 216 (71-70-75) and Anderson was tied for 24th with a 1-over 217 (72-69-76).
Alex Chin finished tied for 13th as an individual. He finished the tournament with a 2-over 74. For the tournament, Chin finished with a 3-under 213 (69-70-74). It is his second tournament under par this fall.
Saint Mary's and host UC Davis were the co-champions. The Gaels and Aggies finished with a 16-under 848. The individual medalist was Fresno State's Matthew Sutherland who shot a 13-under 203 (68-66-69) for the tournament.
The Dons will return to the course on Friday, April 23 for the first and second round of the Ping Cougar Classic hosted by BYU at the Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.
