MGOLF | Dons Lead Pack after Opening Round

PROVO, Utah – The University of San Francisco men's golf team finds itself in a familiar position after the opening day. After shooting the low round to open the Ping Cougars Classic the Dons sit in first at 20-under with three holes left in the second round.
The long day opened with USF shooting a 14-under 274 in the opening round. USF didn't really get going until after the turn, the Dons closed the opening 18 holes shooting 8-under as a team over the final four holes.
Currently in second is New Mexico at 14-under followed by Colorado State and host BYU in a tie at third at 13-under.
Senior Tim Widing currently sits tied for first at 10-under with Boise State's Hugo Townsend. Widing shot a 5-under 67 in the first round and continued his tremendous play into the second. With three to play, Widing has already carded 13 birdies and an eagle. His day finished with him carding five consecutive birdies.
Soren Lind is currently in fourth place after 33 holes. He shot a 2-under 70 in the first round and was six under when play was suspended in the second round. Lind has enjoyed the front-9 at Riverside Country Club. In the opening round he was 2-under with birdies on one and three. His second time through the front-9 he was 5-under with birdies on two, three, six, seven, and eight.
Toby Briggs is in third for the Dons and currently tied for 22nd. Briggs shot a 4-under 68 in the opening round and carded six birdies. Christoffer Palsson is currently tied for 30th. He shot a 2-under 70 in the first round. Matthew Anderson is tied for 42nd. Anderson shot a 3-under 69 in the first round and with three holes to play is currently 4-over.
The Dons will play the final three holes tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. MT they will then play the final 18 holes in a shotgun format starting at 9:30 a.m. Fans can follow the action live via Golfstat.com
