WGOLF | Dons Make Big Improvements on Day 2 of WCC Championship

HENDERSON, Nev. — The University of San Francisco women's golf team improved by 15 strokes Friday from Thursday's opening round, shooting the third-best team score of the day in round two of the West Coast Conference Championship at Reflection Bay Golf Club.
All five Dons improved their scores Friday or shot the same from Thursday. The team shot 294 in round two, 15 strokes better than its 309 in Thursday's first round.USF's largest improvement came from Hannah Zeman, who was seven strokes better in round two, shooting a one-under 71. Two birdies in the final three holes of the front nine put her at 35 for the front, and she'd shoot an even 36 on the back with seven pars and a birdie to boot to finish the day. Her big improvement moved her up eight spots on the individual leaderboard to a tie for ninth.
Annika Borrelli continued to be the Dons' individual leader, repeating her two-over performance from Thursday with another 74 on Friday. Through two rounds, she is tied for seventh at four-over for the tournament (148), seven strokes behind individual leader Allysha Mae Mateo of BYU (70-71-141). Borrelli also had a strong finish to her second round, closing with seven pars and a birdie, like Zeman.
Joan Soewondo dropped her score by three strokes from Friday to shoot a two-over 74. She is tied for 13th heading into the final round. Toni St. John saw a five-stroke improvement, shooting 75 and moving into the top-20, tied for 18th. Pearl Rojanapeansatith improved her score by four strokes, shooting 76 to sit tied for 20th.
San Francisco is in fourth place heading into the championship's final round on Saturday. The Dons have a two-round total score of 603, nine strokes behind third-place Pepperdine and 19 strokes behind team leader BYU (584).
