SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco wrapped up one of its best seasons in years Saturday, dominating Santa Clara in the regular season finale, 6-1, in a West Coast Conference match at the Goldman Tennis Center.
The Dons (12-6, 4-3 WCC) earned the doubles point over the Broncos (2-14, 0-8 WCC) with wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Rita Colyer and Arianna Capogrosso beat Santa Clara's Finley Kalinic and Katherine Petty, 6-2, at No. 1. Chiho Mushika and Maria Martinez Vaquero were winners over JennaMarie Gordon and Giulia Hayer at No. 2, 6-3.
The Dons took five of the six singles matches, including each of the top-three spots. It was Caragh Courtney's 6-1, 6-2, sweep of Lindsey Pesqueira at No. 6 singles that clinched the match victory for USF. Capogrosso was nearly perfect in her win at No. 5 singles, beating Santa Clara's Varya Zlotnik, 6-0, 6-1. And Martinez Vaquero's 6-2, 6-3, sweep of Kalinic at No. 2 singles also contributed to the Dons' win.
Mya Bui took a three-set victory at No. 1 singles over Gordon, winning the tiebreaker, 10-5. Mushika also won a tiebreaker in her No. 3 singles win, beating Jamie Schroer, 10-6, to seal the win.
