MGOLF | Dons In Third to Open WCC Championship

HENDERSON, Nev. – Nine strokes separates No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 25 USF after the first round of the West Coast Conference Championships. The Dons finished the day in third after shooting a 10-under 278 at the par-72 Reflection Bay Golf Club.
The Waves sit in first after shooting a 19-under 269. BYU is in second after charging hard to finish the opening round with an 11-under 277. USF holds its place in the top-three thanks to the play of Tim Widing who is tied for first after shooting a 6-under 66.
The lone blemish on Widing's scorecard was a bogey on 15. He responded by going par-par-birdie to finish the day with seven birdies which is tops in the tournament. On the front-9, the Dons' captain was terrific, shooting 4-under.
Alex Chin and Soren Lind are currently tied for 11th. The duo shot 2-under 70s. Chin had a tremendous start to the opening round, going 3-under at the turn thanks to an eagle on the sixth.
Lind was solid throughout the afternoon. He opened his round going 1-under at the turn thanks to birdies on six and seven. This is four-straight rounds that Lind has been under par on the front-9. On the back-9 he was instrumental in getting USF back to 10-under with a string of five-straight pars before carding a birdie on 17.
Toby Briggs sits in a tie at 17th after shooting an even par 72. Briggs was 2-under on the front-9 thanks to birdies on two and nine. Matthew Anderson is tied for 28th with a 1-over 73.
