SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's and women's cross country programs and head coach
Tim Riley are pleased to officially announce their 2021 season schedule.
Fresh off of an extraordinary year that saw the women make their sixth appearance as a team at the NCAA Championships last spring, the Dons will aim to repeat their success this fall. On the men's side, USF finished sixth at the WCC championships in the spring, ending a 16-year run of top-five finishes for the program at the conference championships.
Academically,
McKenzie Yanek,
Eve Jensen,
Abby Pradere,
Sophie Soefeldt and
Anna Tait earned WCC All-Academic honors for the women while
Caleb Haugland,
Jacob Hernandez and
Daniel Maneloveg were named to the men's WCC All-Academic team. Notably, both teams also earned All-Academic distinction from the USTFCCCA last spring while seven Dons also earned individual honors: Jensen, Pradere, Tait, Yanek,
Baneet Bains,
Kalii Caldwell and
Zoe Wassell.
"Looking at racing opportunities this fall, we really wanted to target meets that we felt would put the health and wellbeing for our student athletes first while also providing great competition," said Riley. "Our goal throughout the season is to build upon every week, to setup for a strong finish at the WCC Championships and NCAA post season."
To begin, the Dons host the 2021 USF Invitation on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. One week later, USF will travel to UC Davis for their first road meet of the year when they compete in the Stump Invitational on Friday, Sept. 10. Closing out September, the Dons will travel to Springfield, Ore. for the Dillinger Invitational on Sept. 22 & 23.
Moving into October, USF will continue competition at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 16. Shortly thereafter, the Dons will race for the conference crown again at the WCC Championships in Concord, Calif. on Friday, Oct. 29.
In November, USF has the opportunity to return to postseason competition at the NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento, Calif. from Nov. 12-14 followed by the NCAA Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. from Nov. 18-20.
