Dons Record Third Top Five Finish of Fall in Reno

RENO, Nev. – Returning to Hidden Valley Golf Course for the second straight year, the University of San Francisco men's golf team delivered another successful performance to begin the week as the Dons finished fifth overall (20-under-844) in a twelve-team field.

Notably, this performance marked the second straight tournament and the third time in four tournaments this fall in which USF has placed in the top five as a team.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
  • Despite the first day of action being called to darkness for a few teams, USF started out strong by sitting atop the team leaderboard after day one. Shooting rounds of 279 and 273, four Dons sat in the top 25, including Ben Partridge in second and Jakob Melin tied for third.
  • Dominating from the start, Partridge finished the tournament as the highest individual for USF as he tied for second overall with a three-round total of 11-under-205 (67, 67, 71). Overall, this finish marked the second time this year in which Partridge has finished in the top ten and the third time in four tournaments in which he has placed in the top 25. Additionally, Partridge shot a tournament-high four-under on Par 3's while also tallying a team-high 37 pars along with 14 birdies.
  • Climbing the leaderboard on Tuesday, Matthew Anderson logged his third top twenty finish of the fall by tying for nineteenth overall with a 4-over-212 (73, 69, 70). Personally, Anderson recorded a team-high 15 birdies to go along with 29 pars.
  • Rounding out the lineup, Jakob Melin tied for twenty-eighth overall with a 2-under-214, Jackson Rothwell tied for thirty-fourth with a 1-over-215 and Taehoon Park placed sixty-fifth overall with a 10-over-226.
  • Competing as an individual Renato Naula, finished just inside the top fifty by placing forty-ninth overall with a 3-over-219.
CATCHING UP WITH COACK KENNEDY:
"This was an interesting week for us. We got off to a solid start yesterday in the first round before we really played some great golf to finish round 2 and take the lead. Unfortunately for a lot of reasons, we didn't play our best in the final round. We will build on the positives that got us a top 5 finish. If we keep putting ourselves in contention, good things will happen. We are excited to get a little fall break before we finish up in Monterey."

UP NEXT:
USF will wrap up their fall schedule with the Cal Poly Invitational at the Preserve Golf Club on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Located in Carmel Valley, Calif., this two-day tournament will mark the final tournament of the fall season for the Dons. Live results will be available via the team's schedule page.
