STILLWATER, Okla. -- The USF Dons family and the men's and women's cross country programs are ecstatic to announce that junior
Ruby Smee has been chosen to compete at this weekend's Cross Country National Championships for the second year in the row following another stellar racing season.
Picked as a preseason All-West Coast Conference runner heading into the season, Smee wasted little time during the fall to further establish her impeccable credentials as one of the best female runners in the nation. Beginning her season at home for the USF Invitational, Ruby led the way for the Dons with a fifth place finish and a time of 21:11.2 to help lead the women's team to a second overall finish in her team's lone home race of the year. Her tremendous showing in the opening weekend was good enough to earn her the WCC Female Runner of the Week award.
Competing against top teams from across the Midwest, Smee and the Dons had a strong team performance in South Bend as they competed at the Notre Dame Invitational with Ruby leading her team to an 11th place finish as she came in 30th overall with a time of 16:42 racing in the 5K.
Returning to the place she posted a personal best last season, Smee turned back around at the Bronco Invitational to win it for the second year in a row with a time of 19:36.2 in the 6K and then wrapped up her regular season by finishing third overall at the WCC Championships in Portland with a time of 19:51.1 to earn the individual automatic bid to the 2022 National Championships.
Tomorrow's race with begin at approximately 7:20 a.m. PST from the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater. Both the men's and women's races will be broadcast on ESPNU with coverage beginning at 7:00 a.m. PST and live results can be found via the
