LEXINGTON, Ken. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Wednesday a new group of honorees for this year's Thirty Under 30 Beach coaches.
For San Francisco, assistant coach Emily Cook was selected to the prestigious list.
"There are so many great coaches out there, so it really means a lot to be recognized among my peers, said Cook "As coaches put in a lot of blood sweat and tears into our craft, so I am really honored to be named amongst all of the other tremendous minds around the country."
The awards program, created in 2021, honors up-and-coming beach coaches at all levels of the sport—college, high school, and club—and the recipients serve in a range of roles, from head coach to volunteer assistant to club director. Nominees had to be younger than 30 years old in 2021 to qualify for the award. The announcement of the AVCA Thirty Under 30 at-large winners will be May 12, 2022.
Joining the Dons last August as an assistant for both the indoor and beach volleyball teams, Cook after serving as the Director of Operations at Loyola Marymount from 2019-2021. Overall, the Southern California native has a wealth of experience both indoor and on the sand as she was also previously the assistant director and head coach at Surfside Volleyball Club for eight years.
Additionally, Cook was the varsity assistant for Mira Costa High School and helped lead her team to a Bay League championship. As a player herself, Emily competed at Pepperdine, where she led the Waves to two National AVCA Titles on the beach in 2012 and 2014. Notably, she left Pepperdine ranked third in program history in total wins (90) as she was also named to the All-Freshman Team in 2010 for indoor volleyball. Most impressively, Cook led the team to a West Coast Conference title and an NCAA top-eight finish in 2012.
Cook was also named AAU National Player of the Year in 2008 for beach volleyball, while also taking a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics in 2007 and a silver in 2008.
