SAN MATEO, Calif. – With the recent completion of the 2022 West Coast Conference Championship, the WCC officially announced the men's golf all-conference team and award winners for the 2021-22 season on Monday afternoon.
For San Francisco, graduate students
Toby Briggs and
Soren Lind both earned spots on the prestigious list.
WCC all-conference selections and major individual awards were selected solely by the nine conference head coaches.
The 2021-22 WCC all-conference team features eight student-athletes currently ranked in the Top 150 on the GolfStat individual rankings – Menante, No. 54 Carson Lundell (BYU), No. 66 Joey Vrzich (Pepperdine), No. 69 Derek Hitchner (Pepperdine), No. 86 Harrison Kingsley (San Diego), No. 94 William Mouw (Pepperdine), No. 135 Joe Highsmith and No. 149 Briggs (San Francisco).
Lind found his name on the WCC All-Conference team for the third time while Briggs, Highsmith, Lundell, Vrzich and Menante earned recognition for the second time. In 2018, Briggs was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and earned Honorable Mention honors to go along with being named USF Newcomer of the Year. With this year's selection, Lind was named to the all-conference team for the third consecutive year.
Guiding the Dons to seven top four finishes in their eleven tournaments this year, Briggs finished in the top twenty individually six times and in the top ten four times. Notably, his best finish came when the graduate student shot 10-under-206 to place second overall at the White Sands Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas from Oct. 29-31.
Alongside Briggs, Lind impressed this season by tallying five finishes in the top fifteen and four in the top ten. Saving his best for last, his best finish of the year came this past weekend at the WCC Championship as the fifth-year Don shot 5-under-211 to tie Briggs for fourth in the final individual standings.
