Women's Tennis Readies to Face Three Opponents this Week

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Riding high on their current five match winning streak, the University of San Francisco women's tennis team (9-5, 2-1) is back in action as they take on three opponents this week. Starting off against Long Beach State (6-7, 2-2) the Dons will be home at the Olympic Club on Thursday, March 30 at 11:00 a.m., before heading into the weekend where the Dons are set to face two WCC foes as they will hit the road to play the Portland Pilots (8-4, 0-1) on Saturday, April 1, at 11:00 a.m. at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. Following that matchup, they will head to Spokane, Wash. to face the Gonzaga Bulldogs (9-8, 0-2) on Sunday, April 2, at 11:00 a.m. in the Stevens Center.

Last week, USF secured a 4-2 team win against the San José State Spartans on March 22. The Dons continued this streak by besting two WCC opponents as they came away with a 4-3 win against the Pacific Tigers on March 24, and beat the Saint Mary's Gaels on March 25 by 4-2, to give them a 2-1 conference record.

#99 Maria Martinez Vaquero and Simran Chhabra over their last three wins have extended their doubles record as a pair to 5-3 on the season. Also taking a sweep in last week's singles games, Arianna Capogrosso gained three individual wins and now has a strong record of 8-4 in the singles category.

This week's matchups will signify the fifth time the Dons have faced the Beach, and Long Beach State leads the overall history 4-0. Their last match took place on February 22, 2019 where the Dons were bested by a final score of 5-2. Against Portland, the USF is ahead in overall wins with a record of 10-4 most recently winning their last season matchup on April 2, 2022 with a score of 4-1. Additionally, the Dons also lead the series against the Bulldogs, by 15-4 in their overall history. They were able to secure a 4-1 win against Gonzaga last season on April 1, 2022 and are looking to do the same this year.
