Dons Battle Through Shootout at WCC Championship

BREMERTON, Wash. - Leaving it all on the course, the University of San Francisco men's golf team battled until their final holes this weekend as the Dons finished second overall (20-under-844/283,280,281) at the 2023 West Coast Conference Championship, just one stroke shy of first place.
Notably, three Dons finished in the top ten individually as Matthew Anderson (T-3rd), Jakob Melin (T-8th) and Ben Partridge (10th) turned in impressive performances on the Olympic Course of Gold Mountain Golf Club.
TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
USF will await where their postseason journey takes them next as the Dons are projected to make the field for the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Tournament. The selection show for the tournament will air live at 10:00 am PT/1:00 pm ET on the Golf Channel this upcoming Wednesday, May 3.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
- Starting the tournament with strong play, USF shot five-under as a team across the first round as Jackson Rothwell was in sole possession of first place after firing a 66 (-6). Additionally, Anderson and Melin were also inside the top fifteen as they both shot even par (72) to tie for fourteenth following round one.
- Moving onto day two, USF remained right in the mix as the Dons were in second place (13-under-563) after tallying a 280 in the second round. Individually, Rothwell remained in the top five as he was tied for fourth at six-under (138/66,72) while Anderson and Melin remained even with each other to tie for eighth overall at three-under (141/72,69). Furthermore, Ben Partridge climbed into the top fifteen by recording a 70 in round two to tie for thirteenth at one-under (143/73,70).
- Coming down to the final few holes in the third round, USF battled with national powers BYU and Pepperdine as the Dons, Cougars and Waves vied for the conference title down the stretch. Falling just one stroke short, Anderson shot five-under (67) on the day three to jump into a tie for third (8-under-208/72,69,67) while Melin (4-under-212/72,69,71) held steady at one-under (71) to remain tied for eighth. Advancing three spots, Partridge finished in tenth (2-under-214/73,70,71) after shooting one-under (71) in his final round.
- Rounding out the lineup, Rothwell finished tied for 21st at 4-over-220 (66,72,82) whuile Renato Naula tied for 34that 9-over-225 (79,74,72).
- As a team, USF led the field in par 3 scoring (+6), total pars (182) and eagles (4). Notably, Anderson, Partridge and Naula tied for the second most birdies with 38 each while Anderson led the tournament in par 5 scoring (-8) while also tying for the lead with two eagles. Additionally, Rothwell led the Dons with eleven total birdies.
