Emily Cook Promoted to Associate Head Coach

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Head coach Diogo Silva and the University of San Francisco beach volleyball program announced today that Emily Cook, an assistant coach for the program, has been elevated into the role of Associate Head Coach.

"Emily has all the qualities that a head coach looks for," said Silva. "She is loyal, intelligent, works hard, has good character and commitment and is a tremendous leader. The beach volleyball program here at USF is improving because of her dedication, love for the athletes, the university and everyone that works with her. She is beyond deserving of this promotion and we are lucky to have her on board."

Joining the Dons after spending two seasons at Loyola Marymount, Cook has brought a wealth of knowledge to the Hilltop. During her time with the green and gold, USF has improved their win total in conference play each season as Cook was also named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 List for beach volleyball in Apr. 2022.

"I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and for our staff here at USF," Cook said. "Diogo has done an excellent job at laying the foundation for this program and I know we can continue to build on our recent progress as we have established our team culture and identity. I look forward to my new responsibilities as we will work every day to accomplish our goal of winning a national championship."

Prior to her appointment at USF, the former WCC standout served as head coach at Surfside Volleyball Club in Southern California. Additionally, Cook was the varsity assistant for Mira Costa High School and helped lead her team to a Bay League championship.

As a player herself, Emily competed at Pepperdine, where she led the Waves to two National AVCA Titles on the beach in 2012 and 2014. Notably, she left Pepperdine ranked third in program history in total wins (90) as she was also named to the All-Freshman Team in 2010 for indoor volleyball. Most impressively, Cook led the team to a West Coast Conference title and an NCAA top-eight finish in 2012.

Cook was also named AAU National Player of the Year in 2008 for beach volleyball, while also taking a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics in 2007 and a silver in 2008.
