Men's Golf Opens Season at USF/Howard Intercollegiate

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's golf team officially opens its 2023-24 campaign with a home tournament cohosted with Howard University to begin the week. Entering their second year of a unique partnership, the Dons are set to cohost the USF/Howard Intercollegiate on Monday, Sept. 18 and Tuesday, Sept. 19 at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
Last year, San Francisco partnered with Howard University to create a tournament that is focused on equity and inclusion within the sport of golf. Collegiately, this tournament gives unheralded programs the opportunity to compete at prestigious venues such as TPC Harding Park and TPC Potomac, last year's course.
The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 on Monday for the first 36 holes followed an 8:00 am start on Tuesday for the final 18 holes.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
- The Dons ended the 2022-23 season on a high note as they finished as a top 20 team in the country at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale. Notably, it marked the second appearance in three years at the NCAA Championships for the green and gold after the Dons also made the field in 2021.
- Following the historic year, Jalen Griffin, who previously served in the role of assistant coach for San Francisco, was promoted to associate head coach for both the men's and women's golf programs this summer. Overall, USF has secured nine team wins and six individual medalists during Griffin's tenure. Additionally, eleven student-athletes have also earned All-WCC honors, two have earned PING All-Region and two have been named All-Americans.
- Academiclly, seniors Ben Partridge (3.58 GPA) and Jackson Rothwell (3.78 GPA) were named GCAA All-American Scholars in July, which was awarded to student-athletes who competed in 50 percent of their team's competitions, had a stroke average under 76.0 and maintained a a minimum cumulative grade-point average above 3.2.
- Returning seven letterwinners from last year, the Dons also welcome two newcomers to the roster this year in Aidan Oliver of Hermosa Beach, Calif. and Svante Palmgren of Götenburg, Sweden.
