Tim Widing Qualifies for U.S. Open at Pinehurst

PINEHURST, N.C. - Tim Widing, a 2020 graduate of the men's golf program at the University of San Francisco, will be competing in the U.S. Open this week, the third of four major championships in the year of golf, at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

Additionally, Widing has officially secured his PGA Tour card for the upcoming 2025 season as the Korn Ferry Tour recently announced that Widing is the first member of the tour to earn PGA Tour membership for the upcoming season.

Widing, who was a four-time All-WCC selection with the Dons, won back-to-back tournaments in April when he earned his first Korn Ferry Tour win via a three-way playoff at the 2024 LECOM Suncoast Classic followed by a record-setting victory at the 2024 Veritex Bank Championship just one week later.

Overall, Widing is the number one player in the current Korn Ferry Tour standings as he took over the top position with his win at the LECOM Suncoast Classic. Notably, his current total of 1,341 points puts him 240 points ahead of No. 2 Harry Higgs, 436 points ahead of No. 3 Steven Fisk and more than 500 points (equivalent to a win in any of the 22 events proceeding the Korn Ferry Tour Finals) ahead of No. 6 Quade Cummins. Additionally, Widing has also finished T-8th and T-11th across his eleven starts on the tour, which effectively guarantees him a top 30 finish on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour points list.

While the top 30 players on the final 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List will earn PGA TOUR membership for the 2025 season, the player who finishes No. 1 earns fully exempt membership and exemptions for the 2025 PLAYERS Championship and 2025 U.S. Open. With one more victory prior to the conclusion of the 2024 season, he will earn an immediate promotion to the PGA Tour.

Widing is also set to make his second championship appearance of the season at this week's U.S. Open as the 26-year-old earned co-medalist honors (alongside Korn Ferry Tour winner Isaiah Salinda) at the Woodmont Country Club Final Qualifying site in Rockville, Maryland. In May, Widing participated in the 2024 PGA Championship via a special exemption, which marked the first such exemption awarded to a Korn Ferry Tour member since Sungjae Im in 2018. This year, Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina will be hosting its fourth U.S. Open.

Heading into the Open, Widing currently sits at No. 118 in the 2024 Official Men's Golf World Rankings as of Wednesday, June 12.
