WICHITA, Kan. – For the second time in the last two seasons, San Francisco's junior catcher Zack Ramppen has been named to the 2025 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List, announced by the Wichita Sports Commission last Wednesday.
"Zack continues to show why he is one of the best catchers in the country' Head Coach Rob DiToma said. "His relentless approach to improving on a daily basis has taken him to great heights behind the plate."
Previously known as the Johnny Bench Award, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award honors the nation's top division one collegiate catcher as voted on by head coaches and sports information directors.
In his second season with the program, Ramppen has elevated his game offensively and defensively behind the plate. Appearing in 29 games and starting in 28 this season, Ramppen has totaled a .232 batting average while accumulating 23 hits, five doubles, one home run, 10 RBI, and 11 runs scored. Defensively, he ranks second among all West Coast Conference catchers with a near-perfect .995 fielding percentage, totaling 182 putouts, 24 assists, and committing only one error.
Ramppen is one of 56 collegiate Division I catchers nationwide to be selected for the midseason watch list.
The Buster Posey Award semifinalists will be selected on May 19, the finalists will be named on June 5, and the winner will be announced at a ceremony in Wichita on June 26.
