Four Dons Score As Dons Move Into Share of First Place

(San Francisco) – San Francisco men's soccer opened the second half of West Coast Conference play with a flourish beating San Diego 4-0 on a crisp, clear Friday night at Negoesco Stadium. The Dons (6-6-2, 4-2-1 WCC) move into a share of first place in the league standings with the Toreros (7-6-1, 4-2-1 WCC).

San Francisco snapped a six-match losing skid in the series and handed USD its most lopsided loss of the season. The Dons improved to 3-0-1 at home during league action and have not lost on their home pitch since September 1.

Four Dons scored and three freshmen registered their first collegiate goal. David Romney opened the scoring in the 22nd minute off a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Mauricio Diaz De Leon and a feed to the near post from freshman Danny Kirkland. Sophomore Vegard Karlsen made it 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 45th minute.

Taylor Krueger collected his first tally in the Green and Gold in the 58th minute off a free kick from sophomore Benjkay Kajihara and freshman striker Miguel Aguilar. Freshman Kyle Macleod added to the mix in the 64th off a Krueger assist.

San Diego held a 18-10 shot advantage for the contest, 11-7 in shots on goal. Senior Kevin Orozco and Krueger tallied a pair of shots to lead the Dons. Conor McFadden led the Toreros with a match-high three attempts.

Junior goalkeeper Brendan Roslund (6-4-2) enjoyed another strong night in goal for the Dons. The Colorado product matched a career-high with 11 saves and turned away the Toreros for his fifth shutout of the season and the fourth during league play. Adam Campbell (7-4-1) suffered the loss for the Toreros and allowed all four goals.

San Francisco returns to action Sunday when it hosts Loyola Marymount in a noon contest at Negoesco Stadium. The Dons will honor its seniors in a special pre-match ceremony.
