Freshman Striker Miguel Aguilar Scores Team-Leading Fifth Goal
"I am pleased with the way the team battled," USF head coach Erik Visser said. "We played extremely hard and gave ourselves a chance to win against a very tough opponent playing for the postseason on their home pitch. The result is disappointing, but the effort is constant."
Freshman striker Miguel Aguilar scored his team leading fifth goal of the season to give USF a 1-0 lead in the 79th minute. Aguilar blasted a shot from 22 yards out to just inside the left post. The Pilots answered in the 89th minute on A Thomas Iwasaki goal.
Steven Evan's sixth goal of the year was the game winner in the 106th minute as the Pilots avenged a 2-1 double overtime loss at Negoesco Stadium October 2. Since falling to the Dons on the Hilltop, Portland has posted a 6-2-1 record and remain very much alive for the 2011 WCC Championship.
Portland held a 20-8 shots advantage, including an 8-2 edge in the second period. Aguilar fired a team-high four shots, three of them on target. Evans had a match-high six with four on target for UP.
Junior goalkeeper Brendan Roslund had another busy night and matched a career-high with 11 saves for the third time this season.
San Francisco returns to action when it takes on Gonzaga in the 2011 regular season finale in Spokane, Wash. Match time against the Bulldogs is set for noon at the Gonzaga Soccer Stadium.
