(Reno, Nevada) - Mackenzie Krieser continued a strong start to her freshman campaign Sunday, as the University of San Francisco women's soccer team downed Nevada 2-0 in Reno. Krieser and Tyler Campagna each netted a goal for the Dons.

The shutout marked the first of the season for USF, who improved to 2-5-0 on the season.

"I am very happy with the win and the shutout," said head coach Mark Carr. "More importantly, I am happy with how we played and worked hard for the full 90 minutes. Our team knows that when we commit to our goals and go to work, anything is possible. It was a game of two halves. We completely dominated possession in the first half and some of the movement and combinations were very dynamic and dangerous. We scored two great goals through Mac and Tyler. Tyler's set piece was very special indeed."

San Francisco got out to a strong start, thanks to Krieser's third goal of the season. In the third minute of the match, the freshman connected on a pass from junior Joan Piasta, chipping the ball in past the goalie for the early lead.

Less than 10 minutes later, Campagna added a goal to give the Dons an early 2-0 edge. Following a Nevada foul in the box, Piasta set up Campagna on a set piece, firing the ball into the goal. The assist was the second of the afternoon for Piasta.

"I am very happy for Joan getting on the board today with both the assists," commented Carr. "Her first pass to get Mac in behind was so perfectly weighted and the layoff to set up Tyler was great as well. She is such an engine for our team and she needs to continue to supply our forwards."

In the first half, USF took eight shots to Nevada's three. Both teams finished the match with 10 shots.

"The second half was just a battle," Carr added. "Nevada came out and matched us up. We just worked hard, never gave up and stayed true to the process. Our team showed a high level of mental toughness even though Nevada had not played a game on Friday. Everyone contributed to the result and played their part today, and I am very proud of all the players.

I really feel we are yet to see the best from this group, and I know we are hungry for more. We will celebrate this today and the go back to work tomorrow as we prepare for next weekend"

The Dons will return to the pitch Friday night as they host Portland State under the lights at 7 p.m.
