Piasta Nets Two On Senior Day As Dons Win 4-0

(San Francisco) - Joan Piasta scored two goals Sunday as the University of San Francisco women's soccer team finished the 2011 season by shutting out visiting CSU Bakersfield 4-0 at Negoesco Stadium. The game marked the annual Senior Day, in which the Dons honored Piasta, Meritt Peterson and Keonna Robinson before the contest. Piasta's two goals marked the first multi-goal match of her career.
USF finished the season with a 6-14-0 record.
The Dons got on the board early with a goal from Mackenzie Krieser at 16:41. Krieser connected with a pass from Christina Moberg, taking the goalkeeper on in a one-on-one situation. Krieser won the battle, drilling the ball into the upper right corner.
Krieser's goal was the fifth of the season for the freshman. She finished her rookie campaign tied for the team-lead in goals with Moberg and with 12 total points. The dozen points. The last time a USF newcomer tallied double-digit points was in 2003 when Shuree Hyatt posted 20 to lead the Green and Gold.
Piasta tallied her first goal on the afternoon at 21:48 on a penalty kick.
San Francisco came out of halftime with just as much energy as it had in the opening 45 minutes. Ten minutes into the half, Jaciara Mello gave the Dons a 3-0 lead thanks to a header in the box. Tyler Campagna assisted on the goal.
Piasta capped scoring and added her second goal of the afternoon at 83:13. On the goal, Christina MOberg added her second assist of the afternoon.
Moberg finished her sophomore season with a team-leading 13 points. She tied Krieser for the season with five goals and tied with Piasta for the team-lead with three assists. Her 13 total points, marks the most for a Dons since Chelsea Hunt tallied 22 during the 2005 campaign.
Combined, Moberg and Krieser become the first USF duo to both post 10-plus point seasons since four Dons tallied double-digit points in 2004.
