Angelo Caloiaro scored a career-high 29 points to lift San Francisco to a 79-69 non-conference victory against Pacific Saturday night at War Memorial Gym. The Dons (8-3) win their third straight game and snap a four-game losing streak to the Tigers (4-4).
San Francisco's 8-3 start is the best for the program since the 2004-05 club posted an identical record through 11 games.
Caloiaro converted on 8-for-11 from the field, 10-for-11 at the free throw line and pulled down team-high 11 rebounds for his 11th career double-double. Senior forward Rashad Green added 18 points, five rebounds with four assists in 35 minutes.
Sophomore guard Dominique O'Connor scored 10 points with two assists and two steals in 31 minutes and junior forward Perris Blackwell chipped in seven points with three rebounds and a blocked shot.
USF converted on .529 (27-51) from the floor and really heated up offensively after halftime, connecting on .625 (15-24) after recess. The Dons did a nice job at the line and hit at a .818 (18-22) pace and missed just two of 17 attempts in the second half. Pacific shot .446 (25-56) from the field and went .450 (9-20) from long distance.
An O'Connor lay-up with 15:46 remaining in the second half gave the Dons the lead for good at 42-40 and started an 8-0 run. Pacific would not cut it to a one possession game from there.
San Francisco got off to a slow start and trailed by as many as 10, 32-22 with 3:55 remaining. The Dons roared back with a 10-2 run to close the gap to 34-32 at the intermission. USF shot .444 (12-27) in the first half, while the Tigers connected for a .478 (11-23) rate.
San Francisco owned a 30-18 advantage in scoring in the paint and a modest 31-29 rebound edge. The Dons took excellent care of the basketball and committed a season-low five and forced eight miscues by Pacific.
USF returns to action when it hosts Menlo College Saturday, December 17 in the second game of a double-header with the women's team.
