(San Francisco) - The University of San Francisco women's tennis team earned a sweep of host San Jose State Wednesday. The Dons' earned a 7-0 win over the Spartans, placing a damper on SJSU's Senior Day.
The Dons' started strong in doubles action, taking wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. At the top position, Cecilia Gratian and Julia Wartenberger defeated Leon Chao and Sandra Florea in a tightly contested 9-8 (2) decision. Cecile Duriez and Yurie Hashiguchi combined at the No. 2 spot to record an 8-2 win over Chau Troung and Olivia Marshall.
USF continued to roll in singles action, as the Don's earned two-set victories in five of the six positions. Playing No. 1, Julia Wartenburger defeated Sabastiani Leon Chao 6-2, 6-3, 10-3, while Duriez tallied a 6-0, 6-2 win over Emily Prescott at No. 2. Gratian recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 over Truong. Hashiguchi tallied a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Marshall, as Jessy Mekpoh won 6-2, 6-3 over Anna Guzman at No. 5. Rounding out action, Alana McMahon posted a 6-1, 6-3 win against Florea at No. 6.
The Dons will return to the court Saturday at Santa Clara before heading to the West Coast Conference Championship next weekend.
