USF outshot the Lions 46 to 27 percent from the field in the victory

SAN FRANCISCO – Propelled by a hot hand and stout defense, the San Francisco women's basketball team outplayed Missouri Southern to a 72-40 result in exhibition play at War Memorial Gym on Friday.
The Dons were led by senior Mel Khlok's 16-point outing on 50 percent shooting from the floor coupled with a game-high four steals. A pair of sophomores joined in on the offensive outburst including Alicia Scafidi's 13 points on five-of-nine shooting from the floor and seven rebounds off the bench. Aundrea Gordon, a guard from McKinney, Texas, chipped in 12 points and a game-high six assists in the win.
After a slow start in the contest, the Dons turned on the juice to get to a double-digit advantage when Khlok slid in a jumper to set the score at 18-7 midway through the first. It was smooth sailing from there as USF maintained a 33-18 halftime advantage over the visiting Lions.
The second period started with a layup from Whitney Daniels, a senior forward from Manhattan Beach, Calif. USF continued to grow the lead as the game progressed and pulled away with the 72-40 victory.
As a team, the Dons shot 46 percent from the field, including a 17-for-30 second half while holding Missouri Southern to 27.7 percent shooting on the night. Defensively, USF forced 29 turnovers, resulting in 24 points. All told, all nine players who entered the game for the Dons scored at least two points.
USF opens the regular season on Nov. 9, as the Dons welcome Hawaii to War Memorial Gym for a tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
