SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Head Coach Jim Millinder and the San Francisco women's soccer team remain undefeated on the season at Negoesco Stadium after beating Sacramento State 4-1 on Friday night.
The Hornets (1-2-1) struck first in the 23rd minute, but the Dons (2-1-2) countered with just over 6 minutes to go to knot the score at 1-1 heading into the half.
Mackenzie Krieser's beautiful goal from the top of the box came courtesy of Kelsey Moe's first assist of the season. Moe, a junior forward, fought off several Hornets in the far corner before delivering a beautiful cross to Krieser. Krieser, with her back to the goal, turned in one smooth motion and fired a shot with her left foot into the upper left side of the goal.
The Dons opened the second half with a flurry, scoring two times in the first 10 minutes of play.
Krieser netted her second goal of the game on an assist from Christina Moberg at the 51:13 minute mark.
Then, just three minutes later, senior defender Barret Bestard struck gold, driving the ball past Hornet goalkeeper Shelby Tomasello to put USF in front, 3-1. Bestard's goal was her first of the season.
The Dons held control of the ball for much of the second half, but were not satisfied with their three-goal lead.
Tyler Campagna put the finishing touch on a wonderful night for USF, pounding a free kick into the back of the net from 20 yards out. Campagna's strike gave the Dons a 4-1 advantage, which would hold up over the final 17 minutes.
San Francisco returns to play on Sunday, September 2 as it travels to face the California Golden Bears at 12:00 p.m.
