USF Men’s Golf team brought home third place in the William H. Tucker Tournament

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (September 29, 2012) – The University of San Francisco Men's Golf team, led by fourth place finisher Cory McElyea, brought home third place in the William H. Tucker Tournament this week. The 58th annual 36 hole tournament was played at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, NM and consisted of 14 teams competing in the two days event.
McElyea, a junior from Santa Cruz, Calif., shot six-under 138 (69, 69) to finish first at the end of day one. Sophomore Jobim Carlos (75, 71) tied for 14th with Baylor's Niclas Mansson and UC Irvine's Travis Russell shooting 146. USF closed the day finishing second with a score of 581 (297, 284) after New Mexico scoring 568 (283, 285).
Day two ended with McElyea firing a remarkable three-under 213 (69, 69, 75) coming in fourth and Senior Taylor Travis tied for 22nd with six-over 222. The Dons shot an impressive 886 (297, 284, 305) to finish third in the tournament which is their best finish this year.
The tournament concluded with New Mexico (-15) taking home the win and Colorado (+14) in second place.
The men's team with return to action in the Notre Dame Gridiron Classic at the Warren Course in South Bend, Indiana.
