STOCKTON, Calif.—The Dons looked on their way to claiming their first win West Coast Conference victory of the season but a Pacific scored in the final five minutes of regulation to eventually force the 1-1 tie.
Despite the disappointing finish, the Dons (5-7-3, 0-3-1 WCC) were able to get its first point in WCC play and will have nine days to get ready for conference power Santa Clara next Sunday.
Pacific (2-8-3, 1-1-1) did not get many chances in the second half and had one of its best looks in the 67th minute when Padilla had a 2-on-1 break on the right side and her shot went wide right of the goal.
The Dons committed a foul in the 85th minute, giving Pacific a free kick from about 40 yards out and the Tigers got an improbable goal from Zarrette Munoz-Aguilar whose kick floated to the top right corner of the goal to tie the game 1-1.
It was the first second half goal allowed by the Dons in conference play.
The Dons had not scored in nearly a month and in the 33rd minute, they finally broke through. Jaciara Mello took a shot that went off the crossbar but Alex Alugas was there for the rebound and put her kick in to give USF the 1-0 lead.
It was Alugas' first goal of the season and the team's first since Sept. 20.
The Tigers nearly tied the game in the 39th minute on a free kick by Maricela Padilla but it was punched away on a leap by Madalyn Schiffel.
San Francisco had multiple opportunities in the half to get on the board and had one of its best overall halves of the season. The Dons put two shots on goal and had another go just over the crossbar on a shot by Amanda Whittle.
Pacific came out of the half with a golden chance when they got a free kick in the 47th minute but Munoz-Aguilar's shot was smothered by Schiffel.
Minutes later the Dons had a look of their own when Alugas was dribbling down the right sideline before cutting toward the goal and tried to connect with Mackenzie Krieser in front of the goal but the Pacific defense was just able to break it up and clear the ball.
