DAVIS, Calif. – Battling windy conditions at Woody Wilson Track, the University of San Francisco women's track team overcame the elements to finish the UC Davis Aggie Open successfully.
For the fourth meet of the track season, the Dons posted new school records. Kamilah Davis' 200 meter time of 25.97 seconds broke a nearly five year old mark and earned her fifth place overall. She bested the previous record set by Briana Junior on May 9, 2008, by six one-hundredths of a second.
“I am really pleased with how well Kamilah competed today- she took a big step forward competitively and has much more to come,” head coach Helen Lehman-Winters said of the sophomore from San Jose, Calif.
Along with the solid sprint showing by Davis, the middle distance runners performed well at the Aggie Open. Taking the top spot in the 800 meters was Sophie Curl's time of 2:13.60. Teammate Hillary Harris came in at 2:14.91 with Kate Jamboretz right behind at 2:14.93.
Alice Baker, a redshirt junior from Oakland, Calif., clocked a winning time of 4:37.07 in the 1,500 meters. Maor Tiyouri's 4:40.22 was good for third place. Madeline Haupert turned in a 4:46.63 to earn sixth in the field of 38 competitors.
“We took care of business in the middle distances with an easy 1-2-3 sweep in the 800 from Curl, Harris and Jamboretz, and we earned a 1-3 finish in the 1,500 from Baker and Tiyouri,” Lehman-Winters said. “It was a long and windy day at the track and for the most part overall times were a bit slow, but we had some solid performances.”
Up next for the Dons is the Hornet Invite Saturday at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.
