SPRINGVILLE, Ut. -- USF shot a final round score of 290 today to earn a wire-to-wire victory at the inaugural Hobble Creek Invitational, which was hosted by BYU in Springville, Utah.
The Dons finished the 54-hole event with a team score of 880 (+28), six strokes better than second place Gonzaga, which carded a 34-over sore of 886.
The victory gives USF its first tournament title since the Dons captured the weather-shortened 2011 Wolf Pack Classic at the Dayton Valley Golf Club outside of Reno.
"I am so proud of this young team," said head coach
Sarah Glynn. "We have three newcomers in our lineup, including two freshmen. We got contributions from every player and I think we are only scratching the surface of reaching our full potential."
Four out of the five players in the lineup posted top-10 finishes, paced by sophomore
Clare Sorensen, who finished tied for third with a 7-over score of 220. Making her USF debut, the Roseville native posted her second consecutive round of 73 on Tuesday, making two birdies and four bogeys.
