TUCSON, Ariz. – The San Francisco women's tennis team split a pair of matches at Arizona's Robson Tennis Center over the weekend, closing out the action with a victory over New Mexico State.

The Dons improved its season record to 5-2 after taking down New Mexico State Monday while the Aggies moved to 0-2 on the year.

Playing the neutral court match, the Dons opened competition by sweeping the doubles matches to get on the board first. Then, USF earned four more points in singles action before coming away with the 5-2 victory over the Aggies.

The top four singles pairings went the way of the Dons with Thyra Taune, ranked No. 116 by ITA Tennis, easing to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Susana Alcaraz in the No. 1 singles matchup.

Andrea Ka made quick work of her opponent, fellow French player Ros-Polly Nguyen, taking the match 6-2, 6-1. Sofia Holmberg and Marina Nikolic both eased out to 6-2 leads in their respective singles matches before having to battle for wins in the second.

Despite dropping the point, both Milica Hadzi-Tanovic and Brooke Irish battled back from first set losses to win the second and force a deciding third set to round out Monday's solid performance.

On Sunday, the Dons fell to No. 73 Arizona, 6-1, to open the weekend. USF's point came at the No. 1 singles position when Taune took down Lacey Smyth 6-4, 6-4. The Dons put up a fight against the Wildcats, extending three singles matches before eventually succumbing to the Cats.

Up next for the Dons, USF closes out its seventh straight match on the road against UC Davis on Saturday at noon. The Dons host their first match of the season Feb. 14 against San Jose State at The Olympic Club.
