USF Falls to No. 36 Pepperdine 4-2

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco women's tennis team was defeated by No. 36 Pepperdine 4-2 Friday afternoon at The Olympic Club.
USF stands at 11-5 (1-3 WCC) on the season, while the nationally-ranked Waves stand at 7-4 after winning their West Coast Conference opener.
For the Dons, USF's first point in the match came from Brooke Irish. Playing from the No. 6 singles position, Irish downed Pattaraporn Salirathavibhaga 6-2, 6-1. The sophomore from Pleasanton, Calif., now boasts and 11-4 dual match record and moves to 2-1 in West Coast Conference play. Irish has now won her fourth-straight singles match, and eight of her last nine duals, dating back to Feb. 14. During the span, all of her wins have been straight-set victories.
Freshman Thyra Taune nabbed a point at No. 2 singles, after her opponent Matea Cutura retired midway through the third set. Taune stands at 11-5 in the dual match season and sports a team-best 24-7 overall record, including fall tournament action.
Also taking a win on the day was the tandem of Andrea Ka and Marina Nikolic. The duo, playing from the No. 2 position, took care of Matea Cutura and Ale Granillo 8-2 to begin the day's action. For Ka and Nikolic, the win stretches their streak to six consecutive and improves the duo's spring record to 12-3.
The Dons will now enjoy more than a week off before embarking on a three-match road swing. USF's next time on the court comes April 2, as the Dons face Saint Mary's at 2 p.m., in Moraga, Calif.
