TEMPE, Ariz. – The San Francisco track and field team competed at the 35th Sun Angel Track Classic, and came away with solid marks on both the men's and women's side of the competition.
For the women, hurdler Eleni Fkiaras continues to improve on her school record in the 400 meter hurdles. She rounded the track in 1:04.22 to shave nearly a half second off her previous USF best. The time was good for seventh in the event.
Sprinters Kamilah Davis, Asaundra Dalton and Lupe Medina also laced up at Sun Angel Track, with Davis and Dalton finishing in the top 10 of their respective events. The four women also combined to run the 4x100 meter relay, as the Dons took third with a time of 48.75 seconds.
The men's performances were headlined by Sean Gomes, who sped to a time of 1:52.44 in the 800 meters. Taking third in the fastest heat of the day, Gomes finished fifth overall out of 21 competitors. His time was narrowly off his own USF record in the event, less than a 10th of a second behind his pace set in 2012. Field athletes Nile Norwood, Katoa Ahau and Cameron Farrell competed for the Dons Saturday, as each man finished in the top 10 of his respective event.
Up next for the Dons is a busy weekend in Southern California. USF is slated to send contingents to the Mt. SAC Invitational in Pomona and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa April 17-19.
