BOULDER, Colo.—The Dons fell behind within minutes of the kickoff and were unable to recover as they were defeated by Colorado 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
"When you're playing on the road, second game, in altitude... It was an uphill fight," San Francisco head coach Jim Millinder said. "But we can't concede goals early in matches. It changes the momentum in games, changes the mindset of players."
This marks the first time this season the Dons have lost back-to-back games (1-0 at Denver on Friday). USF continues its five-game road trip next Sunday when the Dons play Cal Poly.
"We've got to play at a high level from the first whistle to the last whistle, not after you take a first or second goal," Millinder said. "It was a good learning experience and I hope we come away from this that we can't give away soft goals.
"We've got a long week. We've got to get back and focused in on things that are going to make us a better team."
Colorado got on the board in a hurry when in the fourth minute of play Kahila Hogg to a pass on the right side from Darcy Jerman and booted it across to the left for the goal to give the Buffaloes a 1-0 first half lead.
Alex Alugas and Jessica Nakae had looks in the first half but both had their shots go wide.
"As a team, we've got to be focused from the very first whistle until it blows at half time," Millinder said. "I think we've got to find a little more consistency throughout the game."
The second half started very much like the first and Colorado found the net again. In the 49th minute, Brie Hooks found an opening in front of the net, took the pass from Joss Orejel and drilled it into the far right side for the team's second goal of the match. Colorado would score again in the 77th minute to put the match away.
San Francisco goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel faced seven shots on goal in the match, the most in a single match this season.
The Dons attempted to rally in the second half and was able to get seven shots with six corner kicks off in the final period.
