STANFORD, Calif. -- USF's women's golf team wrapped up its inaugural tournament of the spring this afternoon, settling for a 10th place finish at the 36-hole Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford Golf Course.
USF shot a final round 302, three strokes better than its opening round score, and managed to overtake UC Irvine to slide into 10th place on the leaderboard with a final score of 607 (+39).
Oregon rallied from an nine-stroke deficit to claim the team title with a winning score of 576 (+8). The Ducks shot an even par 284 on Sunday while first round leader UC Davis ballooned to 296 on Sunday to finish three strokes back at 579. San Jose State finished third at 581 while host Stanford finished fourth at 585.
Paige Lee of UC Davis claimed medalist honors with a score of 137, good for a two-stroke victory over Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse.
Vanessa Ha was USF's top finisher as the freshman tied for 22nd with a 36-hole score of 139. Ha shot a 75 on Sunday, running into trouble on the tricky par-4 ninth hole, which led to a double bogey. She also bogeyed holes 16, 17 and 18.
Ayaka Suzuki tied for 36th at 152 (+10) after closing with a 77. She picked up her lone birdie of the day on the par 3 eighth hole.
Junior Clare Sorensen bounced back from an opening round 79 to turn in the team's lowest round on Sunday, finishing with a 74. Sorensen picked up birdies on holes No. 7 and 12, a pair of difficult par fives.
Alison Lillie tied for 43rd at 154 (+12) after shooting a 76 on Sunday. Her lone birdie came on the par five seventh hole.
Junior Emelie Lundstrom carded her second consecutive 78 and finished tied for 50th at 156.
USF will return to action at the Bruin-Wave Invitational, set for March 2-3 in Tarzana, Calif.
