USF's men's golf team opens its spring season on Monday as the Dons join the 15-team field at the Loyola Marymount Invitational, which will be held at the Reflection Bay Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.
Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Reflection Bay a Jack Nicklaus design, will play to a par of 72 and 7,261 yards for this event.
Joining USF and host Loyola Marymount in the field are teams from Boise State, Boston College, Cal Poly, CSUN, Hartford, Long Beach State, Missouri State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, Seattle, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV and Wyoming.
UNLV (49) and Saint Mary's (52) are the highest rated teams in the tournament by Golf Stat. San Francisco is ranked 83rd in the latest poll.
The Dons are expected to start a lineup consisting of Sebastian Crookall-Nixon, Jalen Griffin, Henry Chung, Kraig McLeod and Raymart Tolentino. Crookall-Nixon, Chung and Griffin played in all four fall events. McLeod will be making his second start of the season while Tolentino will be making his collegiate debut.
"Our team made a spectacular turnaround in the fall and improved our ranking by 72 spots," said USF Director of Golf Dr. Gary Nelson. "We need to improve by another 12 spots at least is we have hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. This first tournament of the spring is very important for us to perform well against a strong field."
The Dons enjoyed a pair of top five finishes in the fall, placing fourth and the Saint Mary's Invitational and third in an eight team field at Wyoming Southern Dunes. USF wrapped up the fall by with eighth and 10th place finishes at the Alister Mackenzie and Princeville Invitationals.
