
Dons Fall to Jaguars, 6-1

SAN FRANCISCO –– The USF Dons women's tennis team lost 6-1 to South Alabama on Saturday afternoon at the California Tennis Club, with No. 2 singles player Thyra Taune picking up the lone point of the day for the Green and Gold.
In doubles, Alexandria Stiteler and Monica Mitta defeated Hanna Borjeson and Genevieve McCloskey, 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles match. The Jaguars then clinched the doubles point in the No. 3 match, with Paula Sanchez and Cinta Maria Papke taking down Sofia Holmberg and Shanna Dos Santos, 6-2.
South Alabama continued the momentum in singles, with Laura Matuskova beating Dos Santos, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 4 match. In the No. 5 match, Alina Zolotoreva beat Borjeson 6-3, 6-2. The Jaguars clinched the overall match in the No. 6 singles match, with Papke beating Mu, 6-3, 6-2.
In the No. 3 singles match, McCloskey fell to Mitta, 6-0, 6-2. However, the Dons were able to put together a very strong match at No. 2 singles, with Taune picking up her first singles win of 2016, beating Laura Valkova, 3-6, 7-6, 10-5. In the final match of the day at No. 1 singles, Andrea Ka lost to Stiteler, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6.
The Dons return to the courts on March 1 in Provo, Utah against BYU.
