TUCSON, Ariz. – Freshman Tim Widing recorded his third consecutive top-10 finish to help USF to a sixth-place showing at the OMNI National Invitational at Tucson National Golf Club.
The Dons shot a final round 287 (-1) to finish at 1-under 863 for the tournament, which was won by Iowa State with a 32-under score of 832. USF outdistanced WCC rivals Santa Clara, winners of this event last year, and conference favorite BYU.
After turning in rounds of 69 and 66 on Monday, Widing carded a final round 69 today to finish 12-under 204 for the 54-hole event. The Swede was five strokes back of medalist Chun An Yu of Arizona State, who shot a final round 64 to earn a four-stroke victory over Nick Voke of Iowa State and Harry Hall of UNLV.
Max Alcorn had five birdies on his card and to close with a 1-under 71 and tie and for 15th at 3-under 213.
Henry Chung tied for 45th at 220 (+4) after a final round 71 on Tuesday.
Jalen Griffin (228) and Mathias Wentjarvi (236) finished tied for 75th and 86th respectively.
USF will return to the desert on March 17 to join the field at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational which will be held at the Karsten Course in Tempe.
