SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco men's tennis team evened its WCC record after knocking off Southland foe, Loyola Marymount, 4-1 on Friday afternoon at The Olympic Club.
Winning its last three West Coast Conference matches, the Dons improve to 8-12 on the year, with a 3-3 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Lions drop to 5-23 (1-3 WCC) after the loss to the Dons.
USF dropped the doubles point to the visitors before buckling down in singles play. First,
Woravin Kumthonkittikul downed Ryan Brown 6-1, 6-0 on Court 6, and
Paul Giraud earned the straight-set win at No. 5 to give the Dons the lead.
Oliver Poysti's match with Max Kaiser was next to finish, as the junior from Danderyd, Sweden, earned the 6-1, 6-2 decision. Finally,
Ryan Marker clinched a two-set win at No. 3 to secure the 4-1 victory and halt play on the top two courts. Marker, a sophomore from Rancho Mirage, Calif., dispatched Luke Bohuslav 7-6(5), 6-1 to cap his birthday celebration with the team and individual win.
The Dons have a quick turnaround, next hosting Pepperdine at the California Tennis Club tomorrow at 1 p.m.
