SAN FRANCISCO – Izzie Lueken's left-foot volley shot in the 86^th minute broke a scoreless tie to propel the Dons to a 1-0 win over the #6-ranked Bears on a foggy Friday night at Negoesco Stadium.

"As soon as the ball came to me, I saw that the defender was playing off me a little so I timed it and took the turn and shot it," said Lueken of her shot that came just inside the 18-yard box on the left side.

Using her dominant left foot, Lueken corralled the rebound, spun to her right to unleash the shot over the outstretched arms of Cal goalkeeper Emily Boyd.

"It was a great goal," said Dons associate head coach Paul Hart. "We weathered a big storm in the beginning of the second half. Sometimes that can take the legs out of you but the players absorbed it. They dealt with it and found a second wind. Izzie showed a great commitment to get back to the ball for the rebound and made a great technical volley to finish it off."

Coming out of the half, tied 0-0, the Bears got off a couple of quality shots in the opening minutes. Dons goalkeeper Olivia Camera turned them back as part of her six save performance on the night to earn a clean sheet.

The win by San Francisco (2-1-0) over the #6-ranked Cal Bears (2-1-0) was the highest ranked opponent its beaten since defeating then #5-ranked BYU in 2015.

USF will next play Cal Poly on Sunday, August 27 at 1:00 p.m. PT.
