SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco tennis program welcomes top collegiate tennis teams from across the country to the ninth annual Battle in the Bay Classic held at the California Tennis Club from Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24.

This year's tournament is the third time in which both the men and women will compete and wildcard spots for regional challenger tournaments are on the line.

The men's field includes four of the top-10 teams in the country and seven of the top-50 in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis preseason rankings.  They include No.6 Southern California, No.7 Georgia, No.8 Georgia, No.10 California, No.37 UC Santa Barbara along with West Coast Conference foes No.47 San Diego and No.48 Portland.

The WCC is further represented with Pacific and Pepperdine along with host San Francisco.  Boise State and Hawaii round out the 12-team field.

The 32-player draw for the men will be eyeing a wild card position into the $100,000 Tiburon Challenger, a USTA Pro Circuit event held in the fall at Tiburon Peninsula Club.

The women's field is comprised of six California schools including preseason No.27 USC, Fresno State, San José State and WCC programs Pacific, Santa Clara and host, San Francisco.

Along with vying for the tournament title, competitors from the 16-player women's draw will be eying a wildcard entry into the Fairfield Challenger also held in the fall.

Action from the courts of the Cal Club is slated to begin on Friday, September 22 for both the men and women.  The competition continues Saturday, and the championship matches will be contested on Sunday.  Afterwards the Dons host a Kids Day event in conjunction with community partner Harper for Kids.

For the Dons, four men's players will suit up in singles competition: Johan Joenhagen, Mert Zincirli, Ryan Marker and Oliver Poysti.  Joenhagen and Marker will be paired up for the doubles draw with Zincirli and Poysti being the other doubles pair.

On the women's side, six players in total will be suiting up.  In singles competition, it will be: Margarita Treyes, Emily Maxfield, Hanna Borjeson and Shanna Dos Santos.  In doubles play, Maxfield will play alongside Mya Bui with Dos Santos playing with Alexa Meyer
