Battle in the Bay Classic Final Draw/Results
SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco tennis program came away with two runner-up designations in the consolation bracket of the Battle In The Bay Classic on Sunday's final day of competition. On a clear and warm day in the City by the Bay, USF players played in eight matches, winning three of them.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CONSOLATION
USF's
Hanna Borjeson played Fresno State's Juliane Triebe in the women's open singles consolation bracket finals, losing 7-5; 6-3.
In the men's open singles consolation bracket finals, San Francisco's
Mert Zincirli fell to Cal's Jacob Brumm, 6-2; 6-3. Earlier, Zincirli played fellow Don,
Oliver Poysti in the semifinals, winning 6-3; 6-4 to advance to the finals.
EXTRA MEN'S SINGLES AND DOUBLES
Senior
Johan Joenhagen took part in both the extra men's singles and doubles matches, winning both. In singles play, Joenhagen defeated Akram El Sallaly, 6-4; 4-6; 1-0(6). In doubles play, paired along with
Ryan Marker, the duo went on to beat San Diego's Joel Gamerov/Guilherme Osorio, 6-3.
OVERALL SINGLES AND DOUBLES
In the overall singles match, number two seed Wayne Montgomery of Georgia took the singles title defeating fellow Bulldog and number four seed Nathan Ponwith, 6-4; 6-3.
On the women's side, it was another number two and four battle with USC's number two seed Rebecca Weissmann besting teammate Angela Kulikov, 6-1; 6-3.
In doubles play, Akram El Sallaly and Bernardo Oliveira took care of UC Santa Barbara's Anders Holm and Nicolas Moreno de Alboran, 8-7(6) on the men's side.
For the women's doubles, Weissmann and Kulikov paired up to defeat Fresno State's Triebe and Emma Wilson, 8-4.
