Dons Capture Third at Visit Stockton Pacific Invite

STOCKTON, Calif. – Another round under par, and the University of San Francisco men's golf team cemented its place in the top-three as the Dons finished in third with a three-day score of 24-under 828 (278-276-274) at the Stockton Country Club on Saturday. All five players finished the tournament under par for USF.
The Dons wrapped up the tournament with a 10-under on the final round, two players finished in the top-10 with all five players cracking the top-30. The Dons had four players finish under par for the day with all five finishing under par for the tournanent. After three rounds, USF tallied 61 birdies as a team, second most in the tournament.
Soren Lind finished tied for fifth to lead the Dons. His 4-under 67 gives him a 54-hole score of 8-under 205 (70-67-68). On Saturday he opened the tournament with birdies on one and two and sandwiched a bogey with birdies on six and eight to finish the front-9 3-under, he finished the back-9 even par.
Tim Widing finished tied for seventh moving up three spots on the leaderboard on the final day. Widing opened the round with an eagle on two but finished the front-9 one over. On the back-9 he was dialed in, carding birdies on 10, 11, 14, and 16 to finish the round 2-under. After 54 holes, Widing shot a 6-under 207 (72-66-69).
Freshman Christoffer Palsson and sophomore Alex Chin finished tied for 21st. Palsson climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard on the final day with a 2-under 69. For the tournament he shot a 2-under 211 (69-73-69).
Chin had a stellar final round finishing with a 3-under 68. For the tournament he finished with a 2-under 211 (73-70-68). After starting Saturday bogey-bogey on the first two holes, he went into the back-9 even after birdies on six and nine. On the back-9 he was lights out, recording birdies on four-straight holes to go into the clubhouse 3-under.
Sophomore Toby Briggs finished his tournament with a 1-over 72. For the tournament he finished with a 1-under 212 (67-73-72). The highlight of his round on Saturday was an eagle on 16.
Nevada took home the team title with a 38-under 814. The individual champion belonged to BYU's Peter Kuest who was 16-under for the tournament.
COACH'S QUOTE
"Today was another good fight for us as a group," said head coach Jack Kennedy. "We had some really good play after a little rough patch midway through the round. While we are disappointed to not come away with a win, we have some really good things to build off for next week. We have had a good fall and want to end it the right way at Poppy Hills."
