MORAGA, Calif — The University of San Francisco's men's tennis team battled in competitive singles matches over the past weekend at the Saint Mary's Invitational at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
Romeo Midtgaard Jivraj dominated against Saint Mary's Abhishek Bastola beating him in straight sets, 6-0;6-2. In 16s, Jivraj took on Santa Clara's Vasileios Illipoulos and fell in close sets, 6-1;6-1. In extra singles,
Paul Giraud,
Phuc Huynh and
David Woodland showed off their talent and took down their opponents. Giraud defeated Sacramento State's Dom Miller, 6-7(3), 6-4, 1-0(8), Huynh escaped with a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0(6) victory over Cal Poly's Gabriel Gilbert, and
David Woodland also defeated Sacramento State's Bernardo Moraes - 6-2, Retire.

"The Dons battled this weekend and showed good improvement in doubles and singles. We had very competitive matches all around. Romeo played a great match the first day and really dominated. All the other guys all lost very close matches and we were proud of the way they bounced back," said Head Coach Pablo Pires De Almeida. This was a great experience for the guys to show resilience and how in the season you will need to be able to bounce back after a tough loss and compete even harder the next day. We look forward to our last tournament at Fresno State this coming weekend."
